Your Stripe account, your money
Online payments run on Stripe. You connect your own Stripe account — new or existing — through Stripe’s secure sign-in, and every rent payment settles into that account. TenantLedger never holds your money.
Stripe deposits the funds to your bank on its regular schedule, and you can watch each one land from the Recent Payments and Recent Payouts tabs. Disconnect whenever you want; your Stripe account and the payouts you’ve already received stay exactly as they are.
- Connect a new or existing Stripe account in about a minute
- Rent settles into your account — Stripe pays out to your bank, not to us
- Track every deposit from the Recent Payments and Recent Payouts tabs
- Refunds and disputes live in your own Stripe dashboard, one click away
Card or bank — and we never see the numbers
Tenants pay from their portal by card or by bank transfer (ACH), on a phone or a computer, with no app to install. Stripe collects and encrypts every card and bank-account number directly — those numbers never pass through TenantLedger and are never stored on our servers.
It’s the same payment infrastructure millions of businesses rely on, handling the part of the job you don’t want to be liable for. Tenants can save a method and pay in one tap next month.
- Card and bank (ACH) payments from any web browser
- TenantLedger never sees or stores card or bank numbers
- Saved payment methods for one-tap repeat payments
Standard Stripe fees, no markup from us
You pay Stripe’s standard processing fees and nothing on top. TenantLedger doesn’t take a slice of your rent — the rate you see is Stripe’s, typically around 2.9% + 30¢ for cards and 0.8% (capped at $5) for bank payments. Your settings always show the current rates.
You decide who covers it. Pass the fee to the tenant as a convenience fee where allowed, or absorb it yourself — one setting, applied consistently, and recorded against the account you choose.
- Stripe’s standard rates — TenantLedger adds no markup
- Choose whether the tenant covers the fee or you absorb it
- Fees post automatically to a chart-of-accounts account you pick
Every payment lands on the ledger
An online payment isn’t a separate silo you reconcile later. The moment a tenant pays, it posts to their lease ledger, updates their balance, and flows into your reports, deposits, and bank reconciliation like any other payment — because it is one.
No exports, no re-keying on the first of the month, and no guessing which Stripe deposit covered which tenant. Your ledger, your payouts, and your bank statement tell the same story.
Common questions
Whose Stripe account is it — mine or TenantLedger’s?
Yours. You connect your own Stripe account through Stripe’s secure sign-in — you can create one during setup if you don’t have one — and rent payments settle directly into it. Stripe pays the money out to your bank; TenantLedger never holds your funds.
Is it safe? Do you store card numbers?
Payments are handled by Stripe, used by millions of businesses worldwide. Card and bank-account numbers are collected and encrypted by Stripe — TenantLedger never sees or stores them, and tenants pay through their own secure portal.
What does it cost?
You pay Stripe’s standard processing fees with no markup from TenantLedger — typically around 2.9% + 30¢ for cards and 0.8% (capped at $5) for bank (ACH) payments. You choose whether the tenant covers the fee or you absorb it, and your settings always show Stripe’s current rates.
How do tenants pay?
From their tenant portal, in any web browser, by card or bank transfer — no app to download. They can save a payment method to pay in one tap next time. Tenants need portal access enabled to pay online.
Can I turn it off or switch it later?
Yes. You can disconnect Stripe anytime from your settings; it unlinks the two systems without touching your Stripe account or the payouts you’ve already received, and you can reconnect whenever you like.
