Set up your Marketing Site
Marketing Sites lets you publish a public-facing website right from TenantLedger — to attract property owners looking for management services, or renters looking for an apartment. You pick a template and theme, customize the pages, optionally connect your own domain, and publish. You can run several sites, edit them any time, and unpublish or delete a site or page when you no longer need it.
Before you start
- Marketing Sites is available only on some accounts. If you don’t see Marketing Sites in the left sidebar, the feature isn’t enabled for your account — it’s rolled out to selected accounts.
- To use your own web address, you’ll need a domain you already own (for example,
yourcompany.com) and access to your domain registrar to add DNS records.
Create a site
-
In the left sidebar, click Marketing Sites.
-
Click New site (or Create your first site).
-
Choose a site type, a starter template, and a theme, and pick a short URL slug (the site’s web-address word, like
riverside). The app checks the slug is available as you type. -
Create the site. You start with themed starter pages and default placeholder photos, and the site begins as a Draft (not yet public). TenantLedger drops you on the Pages screen so you can start customizing right away.
Customize the site and its pages
Open your site to work on it. The main areas are reached from the site’s sub-navigation:
- Edit / Settings — site-wide settings: name and slug, theme colors and fonts, your logo (under Design), social links, an optional announcement banner, and analytics/tracking IDs.
- Pages — the list of content pages on the site.
- Menu — the drag-and-drop navigation menu (reorder pages, add custom links or label-only groups, show/hide items).
- Domains — connect a web address you own (see below).
Add, edit, duplicate, and delete pages
On the Pages screen:
- Add a page — click Add page, pick a page template in the dialog, and a new draft page is created and added to the menu. Open it to fill in content.
- Edit a page — click a page to open the visual editor. Swap the hero image, edit the text and contact details, and rearrange blocks. Each page has its own settings (title, URL slug, SEO, and a home page toggle) and a Published / Draft state — only published pages are visible to the public.
- Set the home page — turn on the home page toggle in a page’s settings. Visitors land on the home page first, so you must have a published home page before you can publish the site.
- Duplicate a page — use Duplicate to copy a page; the copy is created as a Draft with a fresh URL so it doesn’t clash. Open it and adjust before publishing.
- Delete a page — click Delete on the page’s row and confirm (“Delete this page? This also removes it from the menu.”). Deleting a page also removes it from the navigation menu. There’s no dependency check — the page is simply removed (and kept as a soft-deleted record behind the scenes), so it’s a quick action with no “remove X first” steps.
Connect a domain you already own (optional)
- Open your site and go to its Domains screen.
- Under Connect a domain you already own, enter your domain (for example,
www.yourcommunity.com) and add it. Tick Primary if it should be the site’s main address. - TenantLedger gives you DNS records to add. Sign in to your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, etc.) and add those records.
- Back on the Domains screen, click Refresh after a few minutes. The domain moves from Pending DNS to Verified / Provisioning SSL, then to Active once the secure certificate is issued (usually 5–15 minutes after DNS propagates).
Remove a connected domain
On the Domains screen, click Remove next to a domain and confirm (“Remove this domain?”). The domain is unlinked from the site (the site stays put). If it was your primary domain, the site falls back to its default TenantLedger address until you connect another. You can add the domain again later.
Publish — and unpublish
- Publish: when the site looks right, click Publish now (or set its status to Published). The app does a quick readiness check first — you need a published home page — then the site goes live. Until you connect a custom domain, it’s reachable at a default TenantLedger address.
- Unpublish (take the site offline): click Unpublish (or set the status back to Draft). Visitors then see a “not found” page; only you can preview it. Your content is kept — unpublishing just hides the site from the public. Re-publish any time.
- Archive: a site can also be set to Archived to retire it without deleting it.
Add a blog (optional)
Some sites can include a blog:
- Enable the blog from the site’s Basics settings. TenantLedger sets up a blog index and post template, and you can adjust the list layout and post design later. (Disabling the blog keeps your posts — they come back if you re-enable it.)
- Write a post — on the Blog screen, click to create a post, add a title, body, optional featured image, categories, and tags. Save draft to keep it private, or Publish to make it live.
- Edit a post — open any post from the Blog list to change it; save again to update.
- Delete a post — click Delete on a post and confirm. The post is removed (kept as a soft-deleted record); there’s no dependency check.
- Categories — add, rename, or delete blog categories from the Blog screen to organize posts.
Delete or duplicate a whole site
From the Marketing Sites list (the site’s row):
- Duplicate — copies the entire site as a new Draft, including its logo, pages, and content, so you can spin up a variation without starting over. Review the copy before publishing.
- Delete — click Delete and confirm (“Delete this site? This cannot be undone.”). The site and its pages are removed. Unlike core financial records, a marketing site has no dependency guard — there’s nothing you have to remove first; the confirmation is the only gate. If you only want to take a site offline temporarily, unpublish it instead of deleting.
What you’ll see
On the Marketing Sites list, each site shows a status pill — Draft, Live / Published, Live · Provisioning SSL, or Archived — so you can tell at a glance whether it’s public and whether its domain is fully active. The list also surfaces the primary custom-domain host and its DNS state when one is connected.
Tips
- If your registrar doesn’t support an apex (root) domain, use
www.yourcommunity.com— most registrars handle thewwwform. - DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour to take effect. Click Refresh to re-check status; there’s no need to email anyone, and you won’t get a status email — domain status updates when you refresh.
- Connecting a domain you already own is the supported path. (An in-app domain-purchase option exists in the product but is not currently enabled.)
- Custom domains themselves may need to be enabled for your account. If the Domains screen says the feature isn’t enabled yet, contact support to request access.
- Prefer unpublish over delete when you just need a site offline for a while — deleting a site can’t be undone, while unpublishing is fully reversible.
