Add units to a property
What this is
Units are the individual rentable spaces within a property — for example, “Unit 101” or “Suite A” inside Riverside Apartments. Each lease is attached to a unit, so you need at least one unit before you can sign a tenant. Even a single-family home is set up with one unit so it can hold a lease.
Units live on the property’s Summary page, under the Units tab. That’s where you add them, edit them, and see how many a property has.
When to use it: Add units right after you create a property, and again any time you split or expand a building. For a multi-unit building, add one unit per rentable space. For a single-family rental, add a single unit.
Before you start
- The property must already exist. See Add a property.
- Your plan may include a unit limit. If you reach it, you’ll see a message asking you to upgrade your subscription before adding more units. The Units tab shows your current usage against that limit.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click Properties, then click View on the property to open its Summary page.
- Click the Units tab. It shows the current unit count, for example “0 Unit(s)”.
- Click + Add Unit. A small pop-up opens.
- Enter the Unit Number — this is the label for the space, for example “101”, “A”, or “Main”. Each unit number must be unique within the same property (two properties can both have a “101”, but one property can’t).
- Save the unit in the pop-up.
- Repeat for each additional unit you need to add.
What you’ll see
The new unit appears in the Units list on the property’s Summary page, and the unit count at the top of the tab updates to match. You’ll briefly see a “Units Added Successfully!” confirmation.
Tips
- Use short, consistent unit labels (for example “101”, “102”, “103”) so they sort and display cleanly in lists and reports.
- For a single-family rental, add one unit — for example “Main” or the street number — so you have something to attach the lease to.
- A unit with no active lease shows up on your Available Units list, which helps you track vacancies. See View available units and potential tenants.
