Tenant Ledger

Delete an asset

What this is

Deleting an asset removes it from your Assets list. This is a soft delete — the asset is hidden from your list, but its underlying history is preserved.

Unlike most records in TenantLedger, an asset has no dependency block — there’s nothing you’re required to remove before an asset can be deleted. The one thing to know is that if an asset is currently used in a work order, the Assets list shows the delete option as a “cannot delete” notice instead of a working link, to keep you from removing an item a work order still points to.

When to use it: Delete an asset you added by mistake or one you no longer want on record. If you’ve simply retired the item but want to keep its history, mark it Inactive instead — see Edit an asset.

What blocks this delete

There is no required cleanup to delete an asset. The only thing that gets in the way on screen is:

  • The asset is currently used in a work order. In that case the Assets list shows Delete Asset as a notice that the asset can’t be deleted rather than a working link.

If the asset is tied to a work order and you want to remove it, reassign or delete that work order first; then the working Delete Asset link appears.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings in the top navigation bar, then open Assets.
  2. Find the asset in the list and open its menu.
  3. Choose Delete Asset.
  4. A confirmation pop-up appears asking you to confirm. Click DELETE to remove the asset, or Close to cancel.

What you’ll see

  • On success: the asset disappears from your Assets list and you see a confirmation.
  • If it’s tied to a work order: the menu shows a “cannot delete” notice instead of a working delete link. Reassign or delete the work order that uses the asset, then delete the asset.
