Edit a property's details
What this is
Editing a property lets you correct or update any of its information — the name, address, type, assigned owner, default bank account, status, or description. Nothing about a property is locked in; you can change these fields whenever the real-world details change.
When to use it: Edit a property when its address or name changes, when you reassign it to a different owner, when you want to switch the bank account future money is tracked to, or when you want to mark a property Inactive because you’ve stopped managing it (without deleting its history).
Before you start
- The property must already exist. If it doesn’t, see Add a property.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click Properties.
- Find the property in the list and click View to open its Summary page.
- Open the Actions menu (the Actions button near the top right of the summary) and choose Edit Property.
- Change any of the fields you need. Each works the same as on the add form:
- Property Name — what the property is called throughout the app.
- Property Type — Residential, Commercial, and so on.
- Address, Country / State / City, Zip Code — remember the country/state/city dropdowns cascade, so if you change the country you may need to re-pick the state and city.
- Status — Active for properties you manage, Inactive to keep the record but signal you no longer manage it.
- Owner and Bank Account under Owner Details — reassign the owner or change which account future deposits and payments are tracked to.
- Description — free-text notes.
- Click Save at the top right.
What you’ll see
After saving, you return to the property’s Summary page showing your updated details. Anything created from now on (new charges, deposits, reports) reflects the new values.
Tips
- Changing a property’s Status to Inactive keeps all its history but signals you no longer actively manage it — a good alternative to deleting.
- Changing the Bank Account affects which account future deposits and payments are tracked to — it does not move past transactions to the new account.
- Reassigning the Owner changes whose owner reports and Owner Portal the property rolls up to going forward.
