Edit an asset
What this is
Editing an asset lets you update any of its details — the name, status, linked property or unit, dates, vendor, model, life expectancy, threshold, or description. Use it to keep an item’s record accurate as warranties expire, vendors change, or the item is moved or retired.
When to use it: Edit an asset when you replace or service it, when its warranty information changes, when you reassign it to a different unit or vendor, or when you want to mark it Inactive because it’s been retired.
Before you start
- The asset must already exist. See Track an asset for a property.
Steps
- Go to Settings in the top navigation bar, then open Assets.
- Find the asset in the list. Either click View to open its Summary, or open the asset’s menu and choose Edit Asset. (From the Summary page, you can also open the Action menu and choose Edit.)
- Change any of the fields you need — they work the same as on the add form:
- Asset Name, Status, Property, Unit, Date Purchased, Warranty Exp. Date, Vendor, Model, Life Expectancy (Yrs), Threshold (%), and Description.
- If you change the Property, re-check the Unit — the unit list is based on the selected property.
- Click Save at the top right.
What you’ll see
After saving, you return to the asset’s record showing the updated details. The new information appears in the Assets list and on the asset’s Summary.
Tips
- Keep the Warranty Exp. Date and Life Expectancy current so the asset’s replacement planning stays accurate.
- Mark an asset Inactive rather than deleting it if you want to keep its history on record.
