Tenant Ledger

Configure General Settings

What this is

General Settings control how dates and money look across your whole account, plus how far ahead recurring charges are posted. These are account-wide preferences, so setting them correctly once means every screen, invoice, and report reads the way you expect.

When to use it: set these when you first start so dates and currency match your region, and revisit them if you change how you want amounts or due dates handled.

Before you start

  • None.

Steps

  1. In the top navigation bar, click the Settings gear icon, then choose Settings.
  2. On the Settings page, click the General Settings tile.
  3. Set your preferences. Here’s what each one does and how to choose:
    • Date Format (required) - how all dates are displayed. Choose m/d/y (month/day/year, common in the US) or d/m/y (day/month/year, common elsewhere). Pick the one that matches how you read dates.
    • Currency (required) - the currency used for every amount in your account. This sets the currency symbol shown on charges, payments, and reports.
    • Show Country in Summary (required) - whether the country appears on address summaries. Choose Yes to include it, or No to keep summaries shorter. If you operate in a single country, No is usually cleaner.
    • Charge Post Days In Advance (required) - how many days before its due date a recurring charge is created. For example, 5 posts rent five days early so tenants see it before it’s due. You can set anywhere from 0 (post on the due date) to 14 days.
  4. Click Update.

What you’ll see

After you save, you may be briefly signed out and back in so the new date and currency settings take effect everywhere. Dates and amounts throughout the app will then follow your choices.

Tips

  • Changing the Currency changes the currency symbol shown on charges, payments, and reports - it does not convert existing amounts.
  • Your default country for new addresses is set separately, on the Default Country tile in Settings. Your time zone is also separate - see Set your account Timezone.
  • The General Settings page also shows quick links for adding a Tenant Login or Owner Login to your own website.
