Delete a custom field
What this is
Deleting removes a custom field (the label) from all of your properties. Deleting is a soft delete: the field is hidden from your properties and its definition is preserved behind the scenes, but it no longer appears anywhere you enter property information.
When to use it: remove a custom field you created by mistake or no longer track.
What blocks this delete
Nothing blocks a custom field from being deleted — custom fields are always deletable. There are no dependent records that hold it in place.
If you delete a field that already had values filled in on some properties, those stored values simply become unused (they’re no longer shown anywhere) rather than stopping the delete. In other words, deleting the field also removes that information from view on every property.
If a field already has values entered, the screen may show its Delete option as one that opens a pop-up reading “You cannot delete this property custom field because it’s currently being used.” If you want to remove a field that’s in use, clear its values from your properties first, then delete it.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click Properties, then open a property’s Summary page and go to its Custom Fields section.
- Find the field in the list, click its Action button, then click Delete.
- In the confirmation pop-up, confirm the field name and click Delete.
What you’ll see
- Success: the field disappears from your Custom Fields list and no longer appears on any property. Any values that had been entered for it are no longer shown.
- In use: if the field still has values on some properties, clicking Delete may open the “Cannot Delete Custom Field” pop-up instead. Clear the field’s values on your properties, then delete it.
Tips
- If you only want to stop showing a field on most properties, you don’t have to delete it — just leave its value blank where it doesn’t apply.
