Delete a recurring charge
Deleting a recurring charge removes the template that automatically generates charges, so no further charges are created from it. As with everything in TenantLedger, this is a soft delete: the template is hidden from the lease, but its history is preserved.
A recurring charge has no dependency blocks — you can delete it at any time. The one thing to understand is what it does and doesn’t remove.
What deleting does (and doesn’t do)
- Stops future billing. No new charges are generated from this template after you delete it.
- Does not remove charges already generated. Any charges the template already produced are normal charges that stay on the lease, with their own balances, payments, and delete rules. Deleting the template does not touch them.
If you also want to remove the charges that were already generated, delete each of those individually — and remember a charge that’s been paid has its own blockers. See Delete a charge.
Because there are no dependency blocks, you won’t see a “cannot delete” message here — only a confirmation step.
Steps
-
In the left sidebar, click Leases, then open the lease.
-
On the Lease Summary page, click the Financials tab.
-
Find the recurring charge in the Recurring Charges list, open its Action menu, and choose Delete.

-
Confirm the delete in the pop-up.
What you’ll see
You return to the Lease Summary, and the recurring charge is gone from the Recurring Charges list. No further charges will be generated from it. Any charges it already created remain on the lease.
Tips
- If you only want to pause billing on a future date rather than stop it now, edit the recurring charge and set an End Date instead of deleting. See Edit a recurring charge.
- Deleting the template is the clean way to cancel automatic rent when a tenant is leaving — combine it with ending the lease. See Move a tenant out and end a lease.
