Tenant Ledger

Delete a refund

Deleting a refund removes the recorded money-out. As with everything in TenantLedger, this is a soft delete: the refund is hidden from your lists and reports, but its underlying history is preserved.

The app blocks a refund delete only once the refund’s payment has been reconciled against your bank statement — at that point deleting it would put your reconciliation out of balance. A refund that hasn’t been reconciled deletes with no trouble.

What blocks this delete

A refund cannot be deleted while its associated payment has been reconciled (the refund is part of a completed bank reconciliation).

To clear the block:

  1. Delete the reconciliation that includes the refund’s payment. (This happens in the Banking area.)
  2. Then delete the refund.

The exact message the app shows when a refund is blocked is:

“This refund cannot be deleted because its associated payment has been reconciled. You must delete the reconciliation first before deleting this refund.”

On the Refund Summary screen itself, the Delete Refund link is swapped for a quick warning pop-up that says the same thing — “You cannot delete this refund because it has been reconciled. Please delete the reconciliation first.” (If the refund was processed electronically through Stripe, the pop-up instead notes it was refunded through Stripe; contact support if you hit that case.)

Steps

  1. Open the Refund Summary for the refund (from the lease’s Financials tab, click View on the refund).
  2. Click the Action menu and choose Delete Refund.
  3. Confirm by clicking DELETE in the pop-up.

What you’ll see

  • On success — the refund disappears from your lists and reports, and you see a confirmation.
  • If it’s blocked — you see the warning above. Delete the reconciliation that includes the refund’s payment first, then come back and delete the refund.
