Edit a recurring charge

When to edit a recurring charge

Editing a recurring charge changes the template that generates future charges — its amount, schedule, frequency, chart account, or end date. Use it when the rent goes up, the billing day changes, or you want future charges to stop on a certain date.

Editing the template only affects charges generated from now on. Charges that were already generated stay on the lease as they are — to change one of those, edit or delete that individual charge.

Before you start

Steps

  1. In the left sidebar, click Leases, then open the lease.

  2. On the Lease Summary page, click the Financials tab.

  3. Find the recurring charge in the Recurring Charges list, open its Action menu, and choose Edit.

  4. Update any of the fields:

    • Tenant — who the charge is billed to.
    • Start Date and End Date — when billing runs. To stop future billing on a set date, enter an End Date and make sure Until Lease Ends is unchecked so your date is used.
    • Frequency — how often it repeats.
    • Chart Account — how the generated charges are categorized.
    • Amount — the amount billed each period.
  5. Click Save.

What you’ll see

After saving, you return to the Lease Summary and the Recurring Charges list reflects your change. Future generated charges use the new settings.

Tips

  • To stop future billing without deleting the template, just set an End Date — no new charges are generated after that date.
  • The End Date must be after the Start Date, or the form shows an error.
  • Changing the amount here does not change charges that were already generated. Adjust those individually if needed.
