Edit a charge

When to edit a charge

Editing a charge lets you fix its amount or change its charge type after it was created — for example correcting a late fee that was entered as the wrong dollar amount, or re-categorizing a charge so it lands in the right place on your reports.

The tenant, property, unit, due date, and method shown on the edit form are read-only — you can’t change who the charge is billed to or its date from here. If those are wrong, delete the charge and add a new one. See Delete a charge and Add a one-time charge to a tenant.

Before you start

  • The charge must already exist.

Steps

  1. Open the Charge Summary for the charge. You can reach it from the lease’s Financials tab (click View on the charge) or from the tenant’s records.

  2. On the Charge Summary page, click the Action menu and choose Edit Charge.

  3. On the Edit Charge form, the Property, Tenant, Unit, Due Date, and Method are shown for reference and can’t be changed. Update the fields you can:

    • Type — the charge category (this controls reporting and which credits can apply).
    • Amount — the dollar amount of the charge.
  4. Click Save.

What you’ll see

After saving, you return to the Charge Summary page with the updated amount and type, and the lease balance adjusts to match.

Tips

  • If a payment or credit has already been applied to the charge, editing the amount can change the balance still owed. Double-check the resulting balance on the Charge Summary after saving.
  • To change the tenant or due date, delete the charge and create a new one instead.
