Delete a miscellaneous transaction
You can remove a miscellaneous transaction you recorded by mistake. To protect your records, the app blocks the deletion while the transaction is sitting inside a deposit.
Before you start
- Deleting is a soft delete: the transaction is hidden from your active lists, but the underlying history is preserved.
What blocks this delete
The app will not delete a miscellaneous transaction that has been deposited (it’s part of a deposit batch, or was recorded as a Direct Deposit). When the transaction is deposited, the Delete Transaction option opens a stop pop-up instead of deleting:
Cannot Delete Transaction — “You cannot delete this transaction because it has been deposited.”
What to do first:
- Remove the transaction from its deposit. Open the deposit that contains it (from the transaction’s Summary, choose View Deposit), find the transaction in the list, open its row Action dropdown, and choose Remove Transaction. This detaches it from the deposit and returns it to undeposited funds.
- If the transaction was a Direct Deposit (so its deposit holds only this one item), you can instead delete that deposit. See Delete a deposit. If the deposit has been reconciled, delete the reconciliation first. See Undo or delete a reconciliation.
- Once the transaction is no longer deposited, delete it.
A transaction that has not been deposited can be deleted right away.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click Banking, then click the Misc Transaction button to open the Miscellaneous Transactions page.
- Open the transaction to its Summary page.
- Open the Action menu (top right) and choose Delete Transaction.
- In the confirmation pop-up (“Please confirm that you would like to DELETE this transaction”), click DELETE.
What you’ll see
If the transaction isn’t deposited, it’s removed from the Miscellaneous Transactions list. If it’s still in a deposit, you’ll see the “Cannot Delete Transaction” pop-up explaining it has been deposited — remove it from the deposit first, then try again.
Tips
- The cleanest order is: remove it from the deposit → then delete the transaction. Each step has its own confirmation.
