Delete an owner contribution
You can remove an owner contribution you recorded by mistake. To protect your records, the app blocks the deletion while the contribution is sitting inside a deposit.
Before you start
- Deleting is a soft delete: the contribution is hidden from your active lists, but the underlying history is preserved.
What blocks this delete
The app will not delete an owner contribution that has been deposited (it’s part of a deposit batch, or was recorded as a Direct Deposit). When the contribution is deposited, the Delete Owner Contribution option opens a stop pop-up instead of deleting:
Cannot Delete Owner Contribution — “You cannot delete this owner contribution because it has been deposited.”
What to do first:
- Remove the contribution from its deposit. Open the deposit that contains it (from the contribution’s Summary, choose View Deposit), find the contribution in the list, open its row Action dropdown, and choose Remove Owner Contribution. This detaches it from the deposit and returns it to undeposited funds.
- If the contribution was a Direct Deposit (so its deposit holds only this one item), you can instead delete that deposit. See Delete a deposit. If the deposit has been reconciled, delete the reconciliation first. See Undo or delete a reconciliation.
- Once the contribution is no longer deposited, delete it.
A contribution that has not been deposited can be deleted right away.
Steps
- In the left sidebar, click Banking, then click the Owner Contribution button to open the Owner Contributions page.
- Open the contribution to its Summary page.
- Open the Action menu (top right) and choose Delete Owner Contribution.
- In the confirmation pop-up (“Please confirm that you would like to DELETE this owner contribution”), click DELETE.
What you’ll see
If the contribution isn’t deposited, it’s removed from the Owner Contributions list. If it’s still in a deposit, you’ll see the “Cannot Delete Owner Contribution” pop-up explaining it has been deposited — remove it from the deposit first, then try again.
Tips
- The cleanest order is: remove it from the deposit → then delete the contribution. Each step has its own confirmation.
