Record an owner contribution
An owner contribution records money a property owner puts into the business — to cover a shortfall, fund a repair, or seed a new account. It increases the balance of the bank account you deposit it into and credits the contribution to the owner.
When to use it: whenever an owner sends in money that isn’t rent or other tenant income. (Paying money back out to an owner — an owner draw or distribution — is handled separately and isn’t entered on this screen.)
Before you start
- The owner must already exist in your Owners list.
- You need a bank account to receive the money. See Add a bank account.
Steps
-
In the left sidebar, click Banking, then click the Owner Contribution button near the top right.
-
On the Owner Contributions page, choose to add a new contribution. The Add Owner Contribution screen opens.
-
Fill in the Owner Contribution Details:
- Owner (required) — the owner contributing the money.
- Bank (required) — the account receiving the funds; its balance goes up by the amount.
- Memo — an optional note.
- Method (required) — how the money came in: Check, Cash, or Direct Deposit. If you choose Check, enter the Check #.
- Property — optional; the property the contribution relates to.
-
In the table below, enter the Paid Date and the Amount of the contribution.

-
Click Submit.
What you’ll see
You land on the owner contribution’s Summary page, and the amount is reflected in the bank account you selected. If you chose Direct Deposit, the contribution is also recorded as a deposit automatically — it goes straight into the account. For Check or Cash, it becomes an undeposited item you can group into a deposit batch later. From the Summary’s Action menu you can edit the contribution, delete it, or (if it’s been deposited) view the deposit.
Tips
- Use Direct Deposit when the owner wired or transferred money straight into the account, so it doesn’t sit as undeposited funds.
- For Check and Cash contributions, include the item in your next deposit batch so it matches the lump sum on your bank statement. See Create a deposit batch.
- Paying money back out to an owner (an owner draw or distribution) is handled separately from contributions and isn’t entered on this screen.
